Harry Simons, right, describes his time working for the American Forces Vietnam Network during his military service, while WEBY 1330 Radio’s Mike Bates, left, looks on. Simons saved many of his radio show recordings while servicing in Vietnam, which is the genesis of a radio documentary the two men are working on. Tony Giberson/tgiberson@pnj.com

This is a special episode where the music many Vietnam Veterans enjoyed when they listened to AFVN radio in Vietnam will be discussed. There is a radio station in Milton, Florida (that’s near Pensacola, Florida) that will be featuring 10 straight hours of genuine AFVN programming this coming Veteran’s Day on November 11, 2015. The programming comes from the private collection of Marine Corps Sgt. Harry Simons who was a DJ in AFVN in Saigon. In an article from the Pensacola News Journal titled: Milton radio station airs the real Good Morning Vietnam submitted by Marketta Davis, mdavis@pnj.com the story is told.
