USMC Vietnam Vet Dave “Preacher” Wills

Back in episode 561 USMC Vietnam Veteran Dave “Preacher” Wills came on the podcast in a live interview and he told about his experiences in Vietnam. He served as a amphibious track driver/mechanic with the 3rd Marine Division and operated throughout northern I Corps from the South China Sea to the Laotian border. His entire thirteen month tour was spent on the front lines constantly facing the enemy forces.

Years after his service in Vietnam he discovered he was one of those veterans who had PTSD before anyone knew what it was. His condition led him to do things with alcohol and drugs that would usually end up getting him in some sort of trouble. Along the way he found Jesus and his life was changed.

In this episode he came back to tell about his life after Vietnam and the work he is doing to help other veterans from any war. One way he helps veterans is with his personal prison ministry. Years ago he began visiting jails and prisons where he found a large percentage of the inmates he encountered were combat veterans from Vietnam. He offers assistance to those veterans in jail because he is one of those who has been there and done that. His sage advice and wisdom is not limited to veterans exclusively. He helps anyone who needs his help.

About two years ago “Preacher” Wills become involved with Oath Keepers. Here is how the Oath Keepers website describes the organization: Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders,  who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath, mandated by Article VI of the Constitution itself, is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and Oath Keepers declare that they will not obey unconstitutional orders, such as orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as “enemy combatants” in violation of their ancient right to jury trial.
