His valiant efforts allowed his platoon to regroup and advance. Tragically, Dias was mortally wounded during this selfless act of bravery.

He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military decoration, for his gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.
