The Canadian Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
Episode 2557 of the Vietnam Veteran News Podcast will feature a story about how Canadian Vietnam Veterans are being honored in British Columbia. The featured story appeared in the Cowichan Valley Citizen of Duncan, BC and is titled, Canadian Vietnam Veterans Memorial coming to Vancouver Island, Display is part of a busy summer at Courtenay’s HMCS Alberni Museum Memorial.
Many Americans are unaware that 40,000 Canadians came to America during the Vietnam War and volunteered to serve with the American military in Vietnam. 134 of those Canadians gave their lives in the conflict.
The Canadian Vietnam Veteran’s Association was formed in 1978. Its objective are:
- To assist and support the Canadian Vietnam and Vietnam era Veterans, including their families.
- To bring unity of all who have served and to kindle in them the spirit of comradeship and mutual help.
- To perpetuate the memory and deeds of the fallen.
- To foster international peace and good will.
- To help Canadian Vietnam Veterans in obtaining benefits through the Canadian, and or US government.
This summer, the HMCS Alberni Museum & Memorial (HAMM) in Courtenay will host a visit by the special travelling exhibit, “The Canadian Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.” The exhibit will be on display August 18 and 19, 2023. The location of the Museum and Memorial is 625 5th Street in Courtenay.
