Led in part by Vietnam-era veteran Jerry Harris, the program—organized with AARP Wyoming’s Wish of a Lifetime—offers 15 veterans the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., where they can reflect, connect, and honor the memories of their service. For Harris, who experienced the trip himself, the journey is both uplifting and emotional, especially when visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Still, he emphasizes that the experience is about healing, camaraderie, and long-overdue appreciation.
Harris passionately advocates for all Vietnam-era veterans, stressing that every individual who served—regardless of role—deserves to hear the words “welcome home.” His mission highlights a powerful truth: the greatness of Vietnam veterans lies not only in their courage on the battlefield, but in their resilience afterward. Despite the challenges they faced upon returning, they endured with quiet strength and dignity.
As these veterans age, initiatives like Voyage of Valor and community support become even more meaningful. Vietnam veterans represent one of the most steadfast and honorable generations in American history, and their service, sacrifice, and perseverance will never be forgotten.
