The 1960 presidential election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon is one of the most frequently described political events of the twentieth century, yet the accounts to date have been remarkably unbalanced. Far more attention is given to Kennedy’s side than to Nixon’s. The imbalance began with the first book on that election, Theodore White’s The Making of the President 1960—in which (as he later admitted) White deliberately cast Kennedy as the hero and Nixon as the villain—and it has been perpetuated in almost every book since then. Few historians have attempted an unbiased account of the election, and none have done the archival research that Irwin F. Gellman has done. Based on previously unused sources such as the FBI’s surveillance of JFK and the papers of Leon Jaworski, vice-presidential candidate Henry Cabot Lodge, and many others, this book presents the first even-handed history of both the primary campaigns and the general election. The result is a fresh, engaging chronicle that shatters long‑held myths and reveals the strengths and weaknesses of both candidates.

This podcast has taken on the task of informing as many as possible about the upcoming National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This episode of the podcast will take a look at how Vietnam Veterans are to be honored at Nacogdoches, Texas on March 29.  A story about the planned event appeared in The Daily Sentinel and was titled: Vietnam Veterans to mark 50th anniversary of war’s end. It was submitted by Josh Edwards [josh.edwards@dailysentinel.com], a Daily Sentinel staff writer.

For the fifth time, Nacogdoches County’s Vietnam Veterans will be officially welcomed home and recognized for their service during the war in which major American involvement ended 50 years ago this month.

Piney Woods Chapter 931 of Vietnam Veterans of America began its annual Vietnam Veterans Day program in 2017, but the event was sidelined for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s event is set for 11 a.m. March 29 at the Nacogdoches public library, 1112 North St.

The keynote speaker for this year’s program will be retired Army Master Sgt. Jim Hogg, who is the veterans service officer for Nacogdoches County.

Big Rapids AM Legion Post 98 will host a rifle salute to honor Vietnam War Veterans on March 29.

This episode of the podcast will take a look at how Vietnam Veterans are to be honored at Big Rapids, Michigan on March 29.  A story about the planned event appeared in The Pioneer and was titled: AM Legion Post 98 to host annual Vietnam Veteran’s Day rifle salute. The story was submitted by Olivia Fellows, a staff writer for the Pioneer.

Fellows reports that: This year Big Rapids AM Legion Post 98 will continue its tradition of honoring those who served in the Vietnam War.

Residents can join local veterans in recognizing these heroes with the presentation of honors at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, in Holland Park Veterans & Homefront Heroes Memorial by the American Legion Post 98 Honor Guard Rifle Team.

Immediately following the honors presentation, a free luncheon at AMVET Post 1941, 320 S. 4th Ave., will be offered in observance of the day.

The local honor guard, made up of volunteer veterans of all service branches, provides memorial services including rifle firings on military commemorative dates, as well as offering the families of deceased discharged veterans official military honors during burial.

All in the Big Rapids area of Michigan are encouraged to attend this event to show appreciation to all or Vietnam War Veterans.

Had they knew more about our opponent just maybe there would be no Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. with 58,281 names etched upon its black marble walls of those Americans who died in the American Vietnam War.

According to Professor Olson, ancient Vietnam was situated on the southeast edge of Asia with a combination of high rainfall, humidity, heat, favorable winds, and fertile soil. These natural sources combined to generate an unusually prolific growth of rice, other plants and wildlife.

According to Professor Olson, both sides of the French Vietnam War met at the Geneva Conference to end the war. They agreed that Vietnam would be “temporarily” divided at the 17th parallel and elections would be held by 20 July 1956. However, no elections were held and the division of Vietnam became permanent

In observance of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) invites the public to join in honoring and welcoming home our Vietnam Veterans with a special in-person and live-stream ceremony on March 29 at 10 am in the Great Hall. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Captain Charles “Charlie” J. Plumb, U.S. Navy (Retired).  He will share his story as a “Top Gun” jet fighter pilot who completed 75 combat missions before being shot down by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected from his aircraft, parachuting into enemy territory where he endured six years as a POW.

Proposed Oregon Vietnam Veteran Memorial

This episode of the podcast will take a look at how Vietnam Veterans are being honored in Oregon. The episode is dedicated to the memory of Gary Long. He was a Cobra gunship pilot who flew with your pod-caster in A Battery, 4/77 FA (ARA), 101^st Airborne Division. Gary was an Oregon resident who recently passed away.

Steve Bates, Member of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America and an Honorary Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He serves as Chair of the Committee on Memorials and Remembrance and President of the Vietnam War Memorial Fund.

Steve Bates has been a resident in Boring for 46 years and is a Life Member of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America and an Honorary Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He wrote an opinion piece titled: My View: Join the celebration of Vietnam War Vets on March 29. The Outlook, founded in 1911, was named the Gresham Outlook for its first 80 years. He reported that plans for a Vietnam War Memorial on the Oregon State Capitol Grounds have been approved. All that is needed to proceed with construction is adequate funding.

The purpose of this episode is to help widen knowledge about another one of the herbicides used by the U.S. in the Vietnam War. Agent Orange is the most well known of the agents used. Another agent used in the War was known as Agent Blue.

The weed killer element in Agent Orange was tetracholodibenzodioxon, better known simply as dioxin. This agent was effective in eliminating broad leafed plants. The downside of its use was that it had lasting effects on the soil and it had a tendency to make people sick.

The killer element of Agent Blue was lab produced arsenic. Agent Blue was fatal for narrow leafed plants like rice and Bamboo.

According to Professor Olson, On November 30, 1961, President Kennedy accepted the joint recommendation for limited initial defoliation program restricted to transportation routes (presumably the Ho Chi Min Trail in Cambodia and Laos).
